Andrew King | Senior Solutions Architect, Centerbase
SENIOR SOLUTIONS ARCHITECT, CENTERBASE
While attending Texas Tech University to complete his degree in Computer Systems Information and Management, Andrew King would spend his summers and holidays working at BlockBuster.
It was during that time when he became acquainted with a small family; a trio including a mom and her two kids. Over the years, Andrew built a relationship with them and grew expectant of their conversions, when the store would fill up with the kid’s laughter as he entertained them with jokes or by juggling.
Little did Andrew know that those casual, fun encounters would turn into a long and fruitful career at Centerbase fourteen years later.
It was the mom of the family who connected him to the first lead developer who was working on Centerbase at the time — her husband.
It was through that connection that Andrew came on board the Progression Technologies team, which at the time was the company that housed Centerbase as an internal tool. Andrew began as a temporary, hourly employee to work on a specific project. However, after seeing his work, he was hired as a full-time member on the team — and he hasn’t looked back since.
“Time went on, developers came and went, and here I am now,” Andrew recalled with a smile.
That was in 2004 — when Centerbase was still in the rudimentary stages of development. Before becoming a commercial product, before verticalizing into the legal industry, and before the Centerbase Partner program was in place.
"Back then it was very basic. We didn’t have a sales team or anything like that - we put it out there and hopefully, somebody would decide they wanted it. And people did!”
Today, Andrew serves as the Senior Solutions Architect at Centerbase. His primary role is trifold: it includes interfacing with Partners, working with the development team, and ensuring the quality of Centerbase as a product.
Whether it be interacting with the development team to help them overcome any obstacles they may face, training new Partners, answering support cases, or implementing quality assurance processes, Andrew’s role serves a vital function to keeping Centerbsae running smoothly as both a company and an application.
Andrew has been able to reap the benefits of his long tenure by being able to see, firsthand, the rapid growth and development of Centerbase over the years. He’s had the chance to be a part of every step on the way to becoming what the product is today - from third-party integrations to major features like integrated accounting.
“I really enjoyed when we did our iOS, our mobile application. I had never done any mobile development at all — I had never touched a Mac computer before — and I got to develop on a Mac for those. I was able to learn a lot and I was really happy with how it turned out,” he enthused.
Another project that was one of Andrew’s favorites was the integration with Stripe, an online payment processing tool. Being the very first third-party integration, the project marked a milestone for Centerbase, and he valued the opportunity to be a part of such a huge step for the company.
As Centerbase continues to grow, evolve, and develop, Andrew’s most looking forward to having more of a focus on long-term processes that will shape the company.
“I want to make sure that when people think of Centerbase, they have good feelings about it; that it does what they need and they can depend on it.”
As Centerbase's most senior employee, Andrew continues to look forward to the future of Centerbase with optimism and is excited to see how both his role and the company will evolve over time.
